Nancy Smith Brings Club Greetings to Friends’ Office
Nancy Smith, President of the Friends of José Carreras, North American Branch, recently
stopped by the Friends’ office for a visit. She was on her way to see Mr. Carreras in his
May 19, 2001 recital at the Vancouver, BC Orpheum. It was a great opportunity to catch-up
with former Treasurer Dottie Thomas, and to meet Karen Carbonneau, Friends Administrator,
and Dr. Beverly Torok-Storb, Friends Treasurer. The North American Branch is increasingly
active and exploring new ways of fundraising for Friends, including sponsoring this issue
of Friends to Friends. Their efforts on our behalf are greatly appreciated!!
JCSA Fundraising Efforts Acknowledged by José Carreras
Surprise! José Carreras presented an unexpecting Debbie Blumenthal, Director of the
José Carreras Society of America (JCSA), with a plaque of appreciation. The award, given
Wednesday evening March 28, 2001 during the JCSA Tour Dinner in Barcelona, shows gratitude
for the Society’s work and support for the Friends.

A unique copy of Plane Good Cooking, the cookbook to benefit the U.S. Friends of José
Carreras International Leukemia Foundation, is available. This single copy is autographed by
both José Carreras and former board member E. D. Thomas, M.D., Nobel Laureate. $100 includes
