Friends Merge onto Info Superhighway

Www.carrerasfoundation.org… what more do you need to know? The Friends has, at last, launched its own website. It offers details on our fellowship program and fellows, marrow donation, board members, newsletter back issues, how to donate and links to related websites. So forget about the “dot-coms” for a while and check out our “dot-org”!

Our website would be little more than a notebook of ideas and dreams of the computer-age if it weren’t for our brilliant volunteers who designed the site and give it a home on their server. Jo-Ann Yu, a resident of Beltsville, Maryland, spent hours designing the site, transforming the words and pictures from a pile of papers into an interactive internet adventure. Jo-Ann is a full-time web developer for the U. S. Bureau of Labor Statistics. She is also the webmaster for JCarreras.comExternal Sites, the unofficial José Carreras website, along with carrerasfoundation.org. Knowing that cutting-edge medical research saved the life of her favorite tenor, she was delighted at the opportunity to design the Friend’s web site. It is her hope that carrerasfoundation.org will attract and inform those interested in learning more about the Friends of José Carreras International Leukemia Foundation and its mission.

As talented as Jo-Ann is, she needs assistance from time to time in the technical wizardry department. Dave Brumage, also a full-time web developer for the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics, has kindly stepped in as technical consultant several times. In addition to his BLS work, he runs DJ’N’J MultimediaExternal Sites—a company specializing in providing web design, site hosting, and other affordable web solutions to small businesses. Dave generously hosts carrerasfoundation.org on his server free of charge, as well as volunteering his services as a technical consultant for the Friend’s web site. As a father of two children, including a child afflicted with Down’s Syndrome, he wholeheartedly supports organizations like the Friends which grant research funds to medical scientists and projects like carrerasfoundation.org which can bring their work to the attention of as wide an audience as possible.
