Over $60,000 Raised at Carnegie Hall Reception By Diane Sturiale On March 31, following a fantastic recital by our favorite tenor, the Friends hosted a post-recital reception to help fund leukemia research. The event was sponsored by Cell Therapeutics, Inc. (cti), of Seattle, WA and attended by more than 200 guests in the Rohayton Room of Carnegie Hall.
Artist Ann Hartquist from Washington DC donated a beautiful oil painting of José Carreras. Its sale, by sealed bid, awarded the Friends an additional, generous contribution. In addition, loyal supporters throughout the U.S. contributed over $5,000 in a special tribute to Friends’ Board Vice-President and 1990 Nobel Laureate Dr. E. Donnall Thomas on the occasion of his 80th birthday. A very significant donation from cti, combined with ticket sales, donations from those who were unable to attend the reception, proceeds from the portrait and Dr. Thomas’ birthday amounted to more than $66,000 to help fund leukemia research. The Friends wishes to extend its deepest gratitude to all those who attended the event. Without your patronage, it would not have been the success that it was. Special thanks also to the work of several dedicated supporters who helped to achieve a remarkable event: to Dr. James Bianco and Susan Moore of cti for financial support and more, and to Joyce Delario, Linda Pérez and Ruth Simonson for helping to plan the event. |
